UPSC CDS Examination 2021 – Combined Defence Services Exam 2021

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released an official notification (UPSC CDS Examination 2021) of the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exam (II) 2021 for 339 posts under various courses. Interested & eligible candidates can apply online via the official website of UPSC.

Name Of The Academies: Indian Military Academy – Dehradun, Indian Naval Academy – Ezhimala, Air Force Academy – Hyderabad, and Officers’ Training Academy – Chennai.

Total Number Of Posts: 339 Posts.

UPSC CDS Examination 2021 Details:

Educational Qualification: Academy-wise educational qualification mentioned below –

  • I.M.A. & Officers Training Academy – Chennai: Degree of a recognized University or equivalent
  • Indian Naval Academy: Degree in Engineering from a recognized University/ Institution.
  • Air Force Academy: Degree of a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.

Age Limits, Sex & Marital Status: Academy-wise educational qualification mentioned below –

  • I.M.A.: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd July 1998 and not later than 1st July 2003 only are eligible.
  • Indian Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd July 1998 and not later than 1st July 2003 only are eligible.
  • Air Force Academy: 20 to 24 years as on 1st July 2022 i.e. born not earlier than 2nd July 1998 and not later than 1st July 2002 (Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 yrs.

Note: Candidate below 25 years of age must be unmarried. Marriage is not permitted during training. Married candidates above 25 years of age are eligible to apply but during the training period they will neither be provided married accommodation nor can they live with family out of the premises.

  • Officers Training Academy: (SSC Course for men) unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd July 1997 and not later than 1st July 2003 only are eligible.
  • Officers Training Academy: (SSC Women Non-Technical Course) Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible. They should have been born not earlier than 2nd July 1997 and not later than 1st July 2003.

Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2021 as per guidelines given in
Appendix-IV (Page No 24 On Official Notification).

Nationality: A candidate must be unmarried and must either be:

  • a Citizen of India, or
  • a subject of Nepal, or
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Selection Process For UPSC CDS Examination 2021:

The selection process has consist of Written Examination & Interview. The scheme, standard, and syllabus of the examination are mentioned below –

PART 1: Written Examination

The subjects of the written examination, the time allowed, and the maximum
marks allotted to each subject will be as follows:-

(a) For Admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air
Force Academy:-

  • English: 2 Hours (100 Marks)
  • General Knowledge: 2 Hours (100 Marks)
  • Elementary Mathematics: 2 Hours (100 Marks)

(b) For Admission to Officers Training Academy:-

  • English: 2 Hours (100 Marks)
  • General Knowledge: 2 Hours (100 Marks)

» The maximum marks allotted to the written examination and to the interviews will be equal for each course i.e. the maximum marks allotted to the written examination and to the interviews will be 300, 300, 300, and 200 each for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers’ Training Academy respectively.

» The papers in all the subjects will consist of objective-type questions only. The question papers (Test Booklets) of General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English.

» In the question papers, wherever necessary, questions involving the metric system of Weights and Measures only will be set.

» Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In no circumstances will they are allowed the help of a scribe to write answers for them.

» The candidates are not permitted to use a calculator for answering objective-type papers (Test Booklets). They should not, therefore, bring the same inside the Examination Hall.

PART 2: Intelligence & Personality Test

The SSB procedure consists of a two-stage Selection process – stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear stage I are permitted to appear for stage II. The details are:-

(a) Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are Picture Perception* Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on a combination of performance in the OIR Test and PP&DT.

(b) Stage II Comprises of Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and the Conference. These tests are conducted over 4 days. The details of these tests are given on the website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.

Application Fee For UPSC CDS Examination 2021:

Candidates (excepting Female/ SC/ ST candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only) either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using the net banking facility of the State Bank of India or by using Visa/ Master/ Rupay – Credit/ Debit Card.

Interested & eligible candidates are required to apply online using the official website of UPSC www.upsconline.nic.in from 4th August 2021 to 24th August 2021. No other means/ mode of applications will be accepted and applicants are advised to submit only a single application for UPSC CDS Examination 2021.
